Our half termly information sheets give parents a guide as to what we are working on each half term. This will enable you to help at home by discussing the different topics with your child or perhaps extending their learning by incorporating a particular subject into your families weekend activities.
P.E
P.E will be every Monday afternoon and Friday afternoon throughout the year.
Please ensure your child has an indoor and outdoor kit in school.
Spellings
Spellings will be sent home at the start of each new half term. This booklet is for you and your child to work through each week for the coming 'Spelling Challenge' every Tuesday. The relevant challenge date is at the bottom of each page.
This spellings reflect those from the Primary National Curriculum.
Homework
Homework is sent home every Friday. These tasks are based on the learning your child is undertaking in the classroom and are designed to consolidate skills. We encourage parents to help their child to complete these tasks as a family activity. Homework is due each Tuesday after it goes home.
Times tables and Common Exception Words
The Year 2 expectations are that your child should know the 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s times tables by the end of the year. We encourage regular practice both in school and at home so children are familiar with these.
Common Exception Words are tricky words which need teaching without the use of phonics; please practice these on a weekly basis.
Both of these can be found at the front of your child's homework book.
Education City - Your child has an individual logon and password from school.
*If you want to access 'Education City' on a smartphone or tablet, you must download 'Puffin Acedemy' from Apple's App Store or Andriod's Play Store to enable it to work on these devices.*
CBeebies - Open access for everyone.
Sumdog - Your child has an individual logon and password from school.
BBC Bitesize - Open access for everyone.
Google Expeditions - This free app is available for download on any smart device from Google Play Store of Apple App Store.
We are Elklan friendly in Year 2. Our visual timetable helps children prepare for the day.
We encourage children to use the word of the day when they are speaking.
Welcome to our reading page, here you'll find out about the books we're enjoying, how we are developing a love of reading, and what we're doing to celebrate special events.
'The Witches', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and ' George's Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl.
Roald Dahl is one of Britain's most beloved children's authors, so we have decided to use three of his many works in our Literacy and other subjects this half term.
We have been reading the gripping tale of Roald Dahl's witches, learning about their features (how to spot them!) and what they do if they catch you (beware!). We used this information to write our non-chronological reports to help warn other children around the world about what's lurking out there.
As part of Year 2 expectations, we must learn by heart the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. Here they are to print off and practise:
